Thanked: 1Razor lost sharpness after 8 shaves
Once i honed my straight and had very good shaves. But at 8'th shave i noticed it became dull.
I always did 50 strokes on the strop prior to shaving. It passed TPT and HHT after honing and shave was great. Is it possible the razor was overhoned ? Or maybe my beard is very hard....
(I also have second razor which doesn't lose sharpness so quickly)

Are you using a canvas strop? Some ignore the canvas strop as they aren't sure what it does. On some of my razors I have noticed longer shave-ready sharpness when using the canvas. My favorite is the old "flat firehose" style canvas.

sharpens
if your razor gets dull after 8 shave i don't think it has been overhoned. Overhoned blade will get dull while shaves half of the face .Of course this is depends what type hair etc but blade will not be sharp for 8 shaves.stropping or making 3-4 strokes on barber hone should resolve your problem.good luck

Thanked: 335kekon,
It could be that rather than your razor's being overhoned, you are overbearded.
Perhaps one is sharpened somewhat better than the other, perhaps there is a difference in the steel and heat treatment of each. It's hard to know for this perspective, but if you have a very thick and heavy beard it's not impossible that you will have to touch up the edge after your seventh shave.

Thanked: 267I notice a drop in performance in about 8 shaves and that is why I just go to a newly sharpened razor on Sunday mornings. I like my razors very sharp though and my beard is tough, tough stuff.
Later,
Richard

You might want to try stropping on newsprint for about 50-100 laps to get it back.
