Oil vs Water
I recently aquired a 3 line Swaty that appeared to be in pretty decent shaped so I lapped it and proceeded to give it a try.
Much to my surprise when I tried to wet it the water ran off like I was sprinkling it on a duck's back. The sniff test seemed to indicate oil.
I have cleaned this stone with soap and water several times but I can't seem to get the oil off...it's like someone left it soaking in oil or something. What does seem to work is using it with soapy water or shaving lather.
Am I missing something or is there just no way to convert a previously oiled stone back to water?

i used to fly remote airplanes and an old timer told me to get the oil out of the balsa by spraying K2R on it.. it's like a spray with a bristle top. sure worked but it takes the oil right out of your skin too - had dry skin for several days.

Same with my Swaty. After witnessing the same I just decided lather worked better than water. Never thought about if it had been oiled or not. Might explain it.
