Thanked: 3NORTON 4/8?
Need some advice
I got the norton 4000-8000 stone and need to know if there is anything I need to do to it before use.
Also do I need a slurry while sharping on it?
If it needs lapped can I do it with sand papper (what grit?)

The slurry stone on a 4/8 is not necessary. Here is a great thread on lapping with sandpaper.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 4942The 4K side of the new combo stones is fairly gritty. I have been lapping them down approximately 1/8 inch until the 4K side feels really smooth. The 8K side when new just needs to be lapped for flattening.
