    Default NORTON 4/8?

    Need some advice
I got the norton 4000-8000 stone and need to know if there is anything I need to do to it before use.
Also do I need a slurry while sharping on it?
If it needs lapped can I do it with sand papper (what grit?)

The slurry stone on a 4/8 is not necessary. Here is a great thread on lapping with sandpaper.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

The 4K side of the new combo stones is fairly gritty. I have been lapping them down approximately 1/8 inch until the 4K side feels really smooth. The 8K side when new just needs to be lapped for flattening.

Lynn, should lapping the Norton be the first thing to do when you get them.
