Thanked: 1over-honed razor
OK, so what do you recommend for an over-honed razor (besides smacking the inexperienced honer)? It's a Dovo carbon that is a year old. It's now at the point where it pulls like crazy when shaving. I did a pyramid two times but it's not getting better.

Thanked: 4942Usually when it's over honed, it will glide across the beard with no hair removal. A pyramid of 5-5, 3-3, 1-3 and 1-5 on a 4K/8K should do the trick. You can also try 5-10 strokes on the 4K and see if it will shave the hair off your arm. If not a few more strokes until it does and then 10 strokes on the 8K. May need a little paste to finish up.

Another trick is to back hone (with the edge trailing the spine) for six or eight strokes. This has worked for me in the past.
I'll agree that it sounds like it's not sharp enough and Lynn's suggestion is likely to be more effective.

Are you sure that it's overhoned? An under honed razor pulls pretty dang bad.... If you've never set the bevel properly, all your higher grit stones are doing is polishing the bevels, not the actual edge. It's like making a butter knife super shiny on the sides, but never actually making the edge sharper.
OTOH, if it is an overhoned edge, then we bow to the experienced master - aka Lynn. I just wanted to mention the alternative possibility.
