Congrats, Dups!! Darn good feelin', ain't it? The only problem with successfully honing a razor, is you then start looking around for more razors to sharpen... HAD feeds Rad feeds HAD... it's just a vicious cycle.

HOWW many ?!?!
50 strokes? Thats' 25 laps. Isn't that an awful lot for a new razor? Maybe the reason I am getting as good an edge as I would like on my Dovo is a lack of laps, then? I've done about 4 laps, 6 laps, 12 laps and 10 Laps and 20 laps going from 4K, 8K, 12K to canvas to Leather strop. While I do get a decent shave with little redness, It's not a particularly close shave.

That's the really hard part about honing and stropping... there really isn't any magic number of strokes on hones nor strop.
I bought a shavette so I could directly compare my straights to the comfort and sharpness of machine disposable blades. One stroke WTG on a cheek with the shavette, then one with the straight. If the straight was equally comfy as the shavette, it's *probably* properly honed. I then do the exact same test ATG. If the straight passes this test, it *is* properly honed and stropped.
Prior to the shavette, I'd just take my regular adjustable DE Gillette safety razor and do exactly the same test. Remember, if your straight razor shave isn't every bit (if not more) comfortable than any other method of shaving, something is wrong.
