    Default Distilled water?

When I boil tap water in a pot it leaves residue. I don't have exceedingly hard tap water. I suppose it's about average around here.

What about mineral deposits from the water on a stone? are they hard? what size? do they build up? Even while honing the water drys/evaporates off the stone but I guess mainly it would be after washing and leaving them to dry.

I have lot's of distilled water around the house so I've been filling my spray bottle with that. Rinse and scrub the stones under the tap and then spray liberally with distilled water. Anything to think about here?

I'll bet my water is harder than yours. I can almost see nails come out of the tap.

I wouldn't worry about hard water on the hone. You would have to hone every day for many many years to build up enough deposits to affect the hone in any way. If your worried about cosmetic stains that's another issue.
