Default First Hone... Slight bend in razor

I was honing my razor this weekend and noticed a very slight (almost imperceptible) bend in the razor (probably the ONE time I hit the edge of the sink while rinsing a few months ago) about 3/8 of an inch from the tip causing that part of the blade to hone unevenly. Is this problem fixable? And if so how? I have been shaving with a straight razor for about a year and this was my first hone. Despite the tip problem I did manage to put a decent edge on the rest of the blade and get a decent (but far from perfect) shave out of it. Any advice?

Perhaps this thread should be moved to "The Workshop" forum?

Welcome to SRP! Are you saying the bend is in the cutting edge 3/8 from the tip ? How far up into the belly of the blade does it go ? If it is almost imperceptible maybe you can hone it out or maybe it isn't necessary to do that.

Have you tried the marker test ? That will tell you if all of the edge is in contact with the hone. There are tutorials on honing here in the SRP Wiki and also videos on honing and other subjects here.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

    Default Thanks

I checked out the tutorials. I picked up a few of the finer points on honing but I didn't see the marker test. Anyway, I just honed it some more. At first the tip wasn't getting honed much, but after like 60 strokes it started to take up the bevel. The slight bend is still there but it doesn't seem to be affecting the edge at all. Best of all, I just shaved with it... BBS!

I agree. Just hone it and it might become less of a problem as time goes on. It's good practice. There are some god awful twisted blades out in the world. I hold a straight edge along the spine and I see single warps, double warps, etc. Not fun and it takes a lot to get them to shave ready.
