I was just looking at the Coticle/BBW combo because they seemed like a very versatile stone


So... Now i'm thinking of checking out the Norton 4k/8k and Chinese 12k

So with this my process would be the norton stones -> chinese 12k -> pasted strop -> normal strop.

Aside from the HAD, would this be a setup that could handle most of what i would need outside of restorations?

Absolutly.But if you've got the money, I would swap the chinese for a coticule or a shapton 16k.I have all of these hones, and the only one I don't use is the chinese.But I guess every man have to deside for himself.

I've never used a norton. I've got a BBW/Coticule & love it though. I'd go with the naturals if you really want that, but i guess Jimmy has the experience when it comes to the different benefits of these hones.

I cant believe i'm going to spend $100+ just so i can sharpen $20 ebay razors

Yes it would. The only thing you might want is something to lap the hones with. If you wanted to go for the extra $$ a DMT D8C or X continuous plate would be great but you could do it with 325 grit sandpaper on a flat surface as well. I think there is an article in the Wiki on it or do a search in the basic honing forum.

Yeah, it is lapping with sand paper and pencil marks. I have been reading, just not absorbing i guess
