The cure for HAD
OK, it's not curable. But it *can* be put in remission.
My Shapton 30k from SRD should be here today.
My vintage Pike's combination Belgium should be here when it clears customs coming from Canada. So, what, maybe by summer?
These two acquisitions have successfully put me in HAD remission. Well, that and the threats from SWMBO...
Worthless post, I know, but I had to share my excitement with someone, cause all I seem to get here at the house are glares...

Be sure to post your results of that 30k, I hope for the sake of my wallet that they are not to good....

Kristoffer, I can tell ya right now, you might as well pry that wallet open.
I have a Lynn honed blade that he finished on a 30k Shapton (at least... I think he did.. hmm... I'll have to ask him to be absolutely sure), and it is a-mazing. I've mentioned that I like a *really* sharp blade. The problem with *reallY* sharp blades is that they tend to leave weepers. A highly lubricating cream/soap helps, but for the most part, really sharp blades make you bleed. Lynn put mine right in the sweet spot: so sharp that ATG passes do not skip, hop, jump, stutter, but so buttery smooth that it leaves no weepers behind. That's a very small target to hit, and he did it. And I'm almost positive he did it by finishing on the 30k Shapton.
I'm a baaad influence, I know...
Edit: I've had lots of success getting my blades to shavette blade sharpness, but still haven't hit the smooth target yet, although my new coticule has come close. Even closer than the Shapton 16k.Last edited by FloorPizza; 02-12-2009 at 06:52 PM.

I thought I was in remission until Bart posted about the Choseras. Still fighting the jones.

So... your method is about purchasing a piece of everything that's on the market?
My lust for hones has been *almost* satisfied with my combo Belgian. All that's left on my shopping list is a green coticule!

Thanked: 735Your hones have not yet even arrived, and you're claiming to be cured?!
No, my good man, what you have there is called a "fix", it has momentarily stopped the urge to buy more.....

HAD remission? Yeah right. You're not out of the woods yet, buddy. Like Jimmy said, there's the Chosera 10k and you haven't mentioned having a Nakayama Asagi in your arsenal. Well, you DID say remission rather than a cure, so I guess you could be right.

That is what I thought too .... the Chosera 10K but then I read that it works so much better if you get the 5k too I don't even want to get started with the Japanese naturals. I go to So's or Old Schools sites and I am like a kid staring throught the window of the candy store and no money.

*sigh* just when I felt like I was making progress, you guys just *HAD* (pun intended) to bring up the Choseras and the Japanese naturals, dincha?? Talk about poking a guy that has HAD with a stick... sheesh.
Man.... Old School has some nice looking naturals there, doesn't he.......
Oh, and I loooooove my green coticule!
