i just got a 5/8 dovo special form SRD and it is choice. couldnt ask for a better honing job thx guys! i found a cheap straight razor sitting around my house. it is stainless and say CHINA on the handle so i know its cheap. i was wondering tho if it has the potential to be shave ready. the only reason i ask is i have been using it to practice honing and have got moderate results but cant quite get there. i am still going to practice my technique on it but should i be expecting shave ready results. thanks alot guys. this is the best and everyone has been very helpful.

Probably not. It would be wise to try again with another blade. I've always found poor steel quality is noticible, even to the beginner.

Does the quality of steel between the two seem different?
