thiers issard
I was wondering if I should ever use a 8000 hone on it. My thiers that is.
it's about four years old shave great, but my spine to bevel I feel could be a little better, but ray said the diamond paste is all i'll ever need. Does any body know recommended honing on a 5/8 thiers thats in mint condition.

Four years without honing is a fairly good run! If you want to keep it mint, tape the spine. If you do that it shouldn't take too many laps either.

I notice that you have a join date of three years ago and this is your first post ? That is what I call lurking.
From your description of your Theirs as mint I assume it is mint and still shave ready after 4 years of use? The diamond paste is good for touching up an already sharp edge but eventually any razor will need to go back to the hone. I would look at it with magnification and see what the state of the edge is then figure out which grit to go to. Are you using a Norton 4/8 or what ?Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 4942I would recommend trying the paste first if it is starting to pull a little. Before going to the 8K though and if you have a polishing stone, I would go 10 strokes on either a Naniwa 12K, Shapton 16K, Coticule or Escher just with water and then some paste and then strop and test. You can always drop down if needed.

Have you been using diamond paste on a hanging strop? If so, you may discover that over the last four years the edge has become convexed, so it may require a little more work than expected to accomplish anything on a polishing stone. Just sayin.

Wow...I gotta ask how much do you use your TI?
I used mine daily for a while until the kid with a new toy syndrome wore off...OK in my case it took over a year.
I gave the TI the same treatment I've given all my razors over the years which is a touch up every couple weeks or so. In the early days I just used a Swaty and paste but recently aquired a Shapton 16k so now my touch ups are Swaty followed by the Shapton followed with a CrO paddle strop.
My beard is a razor destroyer and like my other razors the TI hung in there for about 6 months before I was no longer satisfied with the touch ups so went back to 4k, 8k, Swaty, 16k, and CrO.
I will say when you have that razor dialed in it is a whisker destroying machine. It's so smooth it's almost like wiping the beard off with a squeegie.

Getting low down on my theirs honing.
Thanks to old school for redirecting my post and to everyone for the advice .
I have never honed my ti so its time to 12 or 16 I guess. 8000 may be to much.
I use ti paste .50 and .25 mixed and has always worked well.
