Those are more suited to knives and are too coarse for razors IMO.

that's the type of info I was looking for THANKS PACO If considering arkansas natural stones which would be comparable to a 4000/8000 grit? All I seem to see are soft and hard discriptions of the arkansas.

It is pretty much the consensus as I've read it on the forum that an Arkansas stone may work but it too is coarser then what you want for best results. If not coarser the binder is harder then what you want in a razor hone.

I was reading on the web that the Belgian coticule is great for razors because of the large number of garnets and the soft binder. Same with the German Thuringans except their cutting medium is quartz. The book said that those stones were less then ideal for sharpening tools such as plane blades because they would quickly wear the naturals with their soft binder. Arkansas stones,OTOH, are fine for the heavier work but not ideal for razors.

Why don't you get a Norton 4/8. Many here on the forum use them, including me, and there are tutorials in the SRP Wiki specifically about honing razors with them. Here is one source for the Norton 4/8 combo.
