    Default Rolls Razor Hone

Having revitalised the strop on my newly aquired Rolls Razor I have moved my attention to the hone. I can't see anywhere in the instructions anything about wetting the hone. Does anyone now if the hone is used dry or not please?

Since treating the strop with leather oil, it sharpens the blade better, but the shave still feels like a slightly blunt razor blade, so I presume the blade does need honing.

    Regards

    Default Dry Hone the Rolls

Here is a good link if you have not seen it yet - Rolls Razor - ShaveWiki

It is not mentioned on the link but the honing is indeed done dry. Do not wet the stone. Only hone when you need to.

If you haven't already you should look around for original instructions online as well. There are numerous model instruction books availalble to see, download and print (I think the Shave Den has an instruction wiki with a bunch in there). I got bored one day and made forged fakes that look like the real thing! I suggest you read everything you can find on this razor.

There is an entire website devoted to these, don't have the link to hand, but shouldn't be too hard to google.

It is very easy to sharpen the blades. I just finished mine and I replaced the strop.

Gees SW - I am chasing you everywhere! You replaced your strop???? Where did you come up with such a thing?? Is this a custom or an original replacement strop? If it is original - hook me up!

I find the thing totally intriguing. It is a stylish art deco object, with numerous very carefully constructed models. There are some very elaborate 7 day razor gold plated rolls sets out there I would love to get my mitts on. It really is a wonderful shave too. The rolls is a complete straight edge system. The blade can literally last a lifetime if well cared for. It would be best though to have 2 or maybe 3 if you shave regular over your life. Positively the coolest show piece too. Get a nickel plated viscount in mint shape and people ooo and aaaa over it. The reason there seem to be a bunch around if you look on eBay is that they are so solid, and so cool, ppl hardly could have the heart to thrown them away. That is good for us!!!!!
