    Default New hone purchasing

    Hello all out there,

I have been in the market for buying new hones and I have been shopping around. I am hoping to buy the norton kit off of amazon.com due to it seeming to be a pretty good deal for the money. After this I wanted to possibly be a super sharpness freak and go to a slightly higher grit. I do not have the money to go for the 30,000 grit shapton stone so I have been doing some looking and so far what I have found as far as affordability is a 16,000 grit stone here Shapton GlassStone 16000 Grit. I do not know if anyone here has had any experience with these stones and could give me some feedback if these are any good or not. Eventually I want to go to the 30,000 but I just dont have the money right now so if anybody can let me know if this will work for now I would appreciate it.

    Thanks
    Acoda

I have been using Shapton for almost a year now and don't regret spending the money. The 16K will fulfill your needs for a polishing stone from which you can go directly to your leather strop. The 16K doesn't care how you arrived at 8K on your blade. It will do it's job famously. Go ahead and pull the trigger on the 16K and we will welcome you to the club.

For the money too, I would recommend the Naniwa Super Stone in 12K. Off the 8K you only need 10-15 strokes, a little paste and bingo.

    Have fun,

    Lynn
