What I like to do is when I think that my razor is shave ready I try to cut some tips of my arm hair off... I lay the spine on my forearm BUT I keep the edge away from the skin, I tend to cut only the tips off...
If razor cuts them off without pulling I consider it shave ready (you can see the tips on the blade)...
Then I give it 30 more laps on leather and I shave...
