Nail polish on hone question
Hey all,
So the label on the back of my thuringian hone is sealed with nail polish. It water proofs it nicely, and I'm not worried about water ruining the label during honing. But today I used a bit of shaving cream on the hone, and it worked well, but a thought occured to me: Would soap or cream wash away/dissolve the nail polish on the back of the hone? If it does, I don't want it near my stone, since I don't want nail polish running over the sides or to the front.
Maybe it's not a possibility at all, just thought I would throw that out there. Thanks for the help.

Thanked: 3795My experience with nail polish is limited to a few nights of the Rocky Horror Picture Show (it's surprising how NOT difficult it is to find size 12 4" stilletto heels to go with your merrywidow, garter belt, and lace stockings in Boston) and a few thousand microscope slide coverslips. In both of those instances I can attest to the fact that dried nail polish is fairly waterproof. I wouldn't worry about it for your hone.

Thanked: 5Short answer again: no.
Longer answer: nail polish only dissolves in organic solvents, like indeed acetone, ether, xylene. All of which you don't want near your hone.
Think of it this way: have you known any woman polish her nails again after washing her hands ?
