    Default re-honing a shave-ready razor

    hey all,

I have a question about re-honing a shave-ready razor. The razor was honed professionally, but after a few weeks of use, needs to rehoned. I have a Norton 4/8K and an ultrafine sypderco for finishing.

My question is, what hone should I start on? Should I start all the way at the 4K, work up to an 8K, then finish on the sypderco? Or is it enough just to do a “touch-up” on the sypderco? Thanks.

Welcome to SRP ! I would try the touch up on the Spyderco first. Shave and if you have to go to the Norton. Here is a bunch of stuff in the SRP Wiki that may be of use to you.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

    Hello and welcome!

I agree with Jimmy. No sense going any coarser than you have to. If it was already shave-ready, then all you should need is a touch up on your fine hone.
