    Default Purchasing USB Microscope

I have a quick question: if I purchase a USB microscope -- discussed in another thread recently -- and post pictures of the edge of my razors, will it be possible to tell if I am honing correctly? The razors seem to pass the majority of the tests, but I'm still uncertain as to my honing ability.

Well a microscope can tell you information such as whether your bevel is even and the scratch pattern on the razor. You can also see if the bevel is formed correctly and goes right to the edge. It'll also tell you if the edge is overhoned, or has any pitting/chipping in it.

But it can't tell you how sharp a razor is, since you're looking at the side of the blade. So although the microscope can give you a lot of valuable information about your honing, it can't tell you everything.

    At least that's my take.
