WD40 Disaster
After my honing is done, I use WD40 to remove any remaining marker ink on the blade. I never did like wiping/stropping the edge on folded tissue to do this, no matter how carefully I did it.
Yesterday, I had a new idea: why not wipe the marker ink off right after the bevel's set on the 1200?
So this I did, then rinsed and wiped the blade. I then went to the BBW and coticule, finished on the Shapton 16k as usual.
When I took the tape off the spine, the lower half of the blade not covered by tape was a different color! It looked like the color of light BBW slurry, but would not come off.
I did a test shave, thinking that the stropping, the soap, shave etc would do it, but no luck.
Luckily,it easily wiped off with Maas (whew, the razor was a nice Duck), but I guess I'll need to redo the edge. Must've been some kind of chemical reaction with the BBW? Anyway, I thought I'd post this and spare someone else the experience.

Thanked: 17well, on the positive side, you didn't have a stroke. great post. as someone who's only been straight shaving for about 9 months, this is very informative.
