Default Info Please on eBay hone

    Hello,

Won this on eBay and am not sure what I have. Any info appreciated! I was planning to use it as a touch-up hone when I bid on it.

Have since learned that not all Swatys are really Swatys. Even real Swat's come in different versions (at least two-line vs. three-line).

This one is 5+1/4 by 2 inches.

    Did I do OK at $27 + $3 shipping?

That is a real two line Swaty so no worries there. You did OK. If you had been more patient you might have done better with another one, and with Swaty's there's always another one, so you pay for impatience! The thing with Swaty's is that a lot of them need to be lapped. There seems to be an even mix between ones that are convex and concave, though I'm lapping a two line now that is the first one I have found that is concave on top and convex on the bottom so it's as if someone grabbed hold of it and bent it. Yours doesn't have any chips on the top at least so that's good.
If you don't have any other way to check for flatness, just draw a grid with pencil and then lightly lap it with a high grit wet/dry sandpaper on a flat surface. The size of area of surface removal will help indicate how for off from flat it is. That is, if you have a small bit of removal in the middle, then the surface is convex. If removal is on both ends, then the surface is concave. There is lots of info on Swatys in this forum or you can just ask away.
    Have fun with it!
