    Default difference between DMT hones

What is the difference between the dia-sharp and regulat DMT whetstones . I understand that the dia-sharp plates have continuous diamond surface but does that make any real difference?
Are both types suitable for honing razors? Which is better?

Buy the regular. I have the ones with holes and their good for knives, but not as good for razors. Those holes in them can catch your blade and then its...a very bad day.

I think that's the other way around. The whetstones have the holes. The diasharps are continuous plates and are what most folks use. You can also use the whetstones, as I know a couple of well-respected honemeisters do, but just be careful.

It is definitely the other way around. I hear the whetstones work pretty good as lapping stones though.

I haven't tried it myself, since I have a DMT coarse diasharp, but I keep eyening them at my local hardware store anyhow...

grr... post fixed. I have both though. The information is still good, the one with holes isn't razor as amenable.
