Thanked: 286dmt x fine 1200
Just got my 6 by 2 1200 dmt i normally use 1k norton .For bevel setting the dmt works much quikerset a bevel in 50 laps no probs and did'nt need to keep adding water. i take it its ok to clean down with nylon nail brush? and just one question the dmt sounds a bit scrapy when in use is this normal the blade glides ok it just a bit scrapy as in noise the hone makes? other than that i prefer to norton .

I took a long screwdriver with a round shank and rubbed the plate down with the shank to aid is breaking in. That is with a wet plate. I also went over the edges of the plate with it to flatten any divots that could catch the edge of the blade when honing. Wouldn't hurt to flatten one stone with it to also aid in break in. Not a regular lapping plate as you can eat up the nickel if you're not careful. I found that a drop of dish soap in the water greatly smooths out honing with a DMT.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 398I got one of these coming my way as well. I can't wait to give her a go. I'll try the screwdriver trick to break it in properly.
Hopefully it should do a better job at setting bevels than my coticule with heavy slurry.

Thanked: 286Dups i have just used it on an old razor that a customer gave me and it was blunt i thought i'd use this to brake it in rather than my own. I did 20 passes and straight away it i could feel differance 50 passes and whole blade was griping my nail realy nice so i did quite a thew more using tnt and tpt still good feed back on tnt and tpt i probably did 120 laps but could of got away with less but just did more to use the hone and break it in.It works and cuts faster than my norton and you don't have to soak and keep adding water every 8 to 10 laps which is apain when your setting bevel. The norton sounds smoother but may be the dmt is going sound differant as it l a metal plate. the bevel seemed realy good of new dmt so no probs. i then did 150 laps on bbw slurry milky and then 100 light on yellow water stroped at 150 on leather plus linen on my tm latigo and horse hide passed hanging hht peace of cake after stroping and shaved brilliant. i would normaly of gone 1k 4k 8k bbw coti that works realy well as well missing out my 4k 8k did'nt need it so barts simple method is all you need good luck.

Thanked: 398Cool Gary!
I got a BBW and a coticule as well. I'll probably be using the same process as yours.
It's too bad I don't have any razors in need of a overhaul right now

Same with my dmt 1200 they come brand new very silvery in colur but i think oviously with a bit of use they will change colour and yes will last for ever. mine did the job good just sound a bit how can i put it clik clik has i honed now it sounds more smooth you will see when you try yours it defanatley creates bevel my norton does to but not has quik

I'll use an old screwdriver and beat the **** out of it to make sure it's nice and smooth.
