Finish on a norton 4k/8k
Would it be logical to touch up My SS dovo on a norton 8k side? It still cuts decently but the shaves are not as quality or as comfortable as they were. I still feel that "exfoliated" feeling the morning after shaving. No pain or razor burn, but definitely some skin sensitivity. The razor came off Lynn's hone a few months ago and has only been stropped since then. No touch up's until now. I'm trying to save some dough and just buy the norton combo instead of that and a 12k or a new strop and paste. Any thoughts on how comfortable the blade would be off the 8k? Thanks, Jeremy-

Thanked: 1262I would try this first: Chromium Oxide .5 Micron powder packets. The good stuff! - Straight Razor Place Classifieds
some instructions on making pasted strops:
Easily make a pasted balsa strop - Straight Razor Place Wiki
You can also look for a barber hone to use for touchups.

I find a shave off of the 8k following 4/8 pyramids comfortable. If I'm touching up a razor I use higher grits because I have them. The first thing that comes to my mind is to suggest going to the classifieds and buying a packet of chrom ox from Chris L. Take that and make a balsa wood strop and follow the 8k with the chrom ox. You might even get by with the chrom ox on leather, felt, or balsa without the 8k. At least for awhile.
EDIT; Slantbartfest beat me to the punchBe careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

i had someone suggest to me to try going to the 8k with not too much water on it and when it gets dry do another 10 extra light laps on the nearly dry hone. now i have a CrOx strop that i really like and used on this one i don't see why you couldn't give it a try and do some extra stropping to make up for the lack of CrOx.
like someone already said, as long as your honing technique is good you can't really hurt anything, and many people shave off the 8k (with stropping of course).
