    b) what should it be used for... it doesnt give a grit number.
    c) help!

    thanks.

My recollection was that they were not great or at least that they were too coarse to be of much help. I found this thread, which gave mixed opinions of them. If it is in fact a 2500 grit hone, then you will still need at least a couple more grits to make a shaveable edge.

    a) Probably, but since you already bought it, consider it the first of your collection. You cannot use it to make an adequately sharp edge for shaving.
    b) You can use it as a slow bevel setter, but that's about it.
    c) Read everything here in the Honing FAQs section. Also just look around in the basic honing section and read whatever catches your attention. Ask any question if you can't find the answer on your own.

    a) I'm afraid i have to say I think so.
b)Knives maybe. Arkansas stones are fairly slow & the guys that have experimented using them with razors have not been impressed. There are a few reviews here. Colonel Ichabod Conk Straight Razor Sharpening Stone information & Colonel Ichabod Conk Straight Razor Sharpening Stone pricing at HealthHaven.com
c)As above. Follow the threads in basic honing & you'll get an idea of what most fellas have found to work.

I know Jockey uses one in his honing video. They're not fine hones but you could use it somewhere in your honing progression I'm sure.

Just my $ .02 I would not use any hone less than 8k to touch up a shave ready razor .

I use one and i LOVE IT. I'd put it a 3k and I can and have shaved off of it before. It puts a great edge on the blade. I assume you are talking about the one that says surgical stone?

It takes some doing but with a little water you can get a good edge on there. Follow up with a 6k and a 12k and some CRO2 you got yourself a party.

IMHO its a great stone. Not the best but a great stone. I seem to be alone in that camp though.

I pop hairs with my edge off that stone.
