Default New stone that is barber hone equivalent

    Hi,
I'm looking for a 2" hone for touch ups on an already honed blade-- I keep getting outbid on ebay on the Swatys out there (gee, thanks guys...)

What would be the nearest equivalent new stone? If you have a good supplier, I'd appreciate that, too.

    Thanks
    BH

Spyderco UF. There are two versions, a 2" wide one and a 3" wide one. It's a bit finer and slower than the old swaty though, and 8" long instead of 5" long, though I suppose you could cut one down if the length really bothers you.

How much are you lookin' to spend? A coticule would work great for your purposes, but still can be mucho versatile.

+1 on the coticule ... easy to use, forgiving, impossible to overhone and a smooth edge.

It would be nice to keep it under $50, but I could afford a bit more. Any good sources for the coticule? Would this be the "yellow" or the "blue"?

+1 for the Chinese 12k. I hear its a great stone and gives a good edge. And its darn cheap.

Yellow. If you're in the US, The Perfect Edge is a good source.

    PS, I don't like the Chinese 12 K for touch-ups. It's too fine.

    Good day,

    Mckie
I know I am a late arrival to this thread...

Thanks for the pointer to woodcraft. There is one just up
the highway from me (40 min north of San Jose) so I will
    make a house call.

I love to buy stuff I can touch first. And for $20 I could do worse.

    Thanks again.

IMO the Naniwa 12K is better, but for the money the Chinese 12K is the best thing out there. Pick you up a slurry stone from Zib here on SRP and it will make it cut a little faster. Its a slow hone, but works well.

    Good Luck!
