See the big picture ~ 30 x 36 Loupe
I've always hated the small field of view in loupes I've used over the years.
This one is much less claustrophobic...
No connection to the seller, just think it's a great product. Price is ok too.

Thanked: 156BEFORE YOU BUY THIS...
Know that its not a 30x magnification. Its 8x magnification. I was extremely puzzled by how cheap this item was. Especially for the lens size and supposed 30x magnification. I had paid over $30 for something that was purportedly the best loupe for the pirce on the market. Anyway, I won't bore you longer with why I was so sceptical. But I read the description and the 30 means its 30mm high, not 30 magnification. Description says 8x.

Thanked: 278Looks like some loupes show their specs as focal length X diameter of eyepiece.
This one is 30x36, i.e. 30mm focal length, 36mm diameter eyepiece.
One way to work out the magnification is to divide 25cm by the focal length.
For this one 25cm/30mm=25cm/3cm=8.3 or roughly 8X.
There are lots of "30x.." loupes on ebay, I suspect they are all 30mm and 8X magnification.
Edit> It depends if there is a "-" between the figures. E.g. "10x-12mm" should mean 10x magnification, 12mm diameter lens.Last edited by Rajagra; 04-14-2009 at 11:31 PM.

The view is great regardless of magnification even if it's only 8x. The labelling is confusing but it is easier to use than the smaller diameter ones & worth a try at the price.
I tend to reach for the microscope if I need more but rarely bother.

Thanked: 156I completely agree. The larger the viewing diameter, the clearer the picture. Normally. I hate those cheap eye loupes with only 1 lense and a viewing area so small and distorted I can't make anything out.
So I splurged and got a 20x BelOmo. My god, what a difference! It lives up to the reviews it receives and was not too bad on the wallet. I love it so much, I bought a 10x. Both very clear, very good magnification and very easy to use.
