Taping the spine and using a Barber's hone
I suppose this has been asked already, but my search-fu isn't up to this.
If you tape the spine when honing, do you need to do it when you later use a barber's hone to freshen up that blade? It would change the angle a bit. Small admittedly, but I get the impression that small things can cause quite a difference when honing.

Thanked: 3795Yes, again. If you hone a taped bevel, then you a only removing metal at the shoulder of the bevel, not at the edge, so your razor's edge won't get any sharper until you have reset the bevel. You CAN set a bevel with a barber hone such as a Swaty. I did it once just to see what it would take. It took hours.
Same rule applies for barber hones as other hones. That is, if the bevel is set with tape, you have to do touch ups with tape. If you don't want to do touch ups with tape, then the bevel needs to be set without tape.

I remember that thread, I'm a math geek so I love that kind of stuff!
My opinion is use tape all the way or not at all. I personally don't like using tape because I don't want to have to worry about taping up a razor if I just need to do a touch-up. I don't mind a little bit of hone-wear, it gives the razor character and shows that it's been loved!
