    Default Took the Coti Plunge!

Well, I finally took the plunge and got a 6x2 Coti and slurry stone from Best Sharpener Stones on the Bay. I will follow up with the results. Thanks to all who provided counsel. Special thanks to Bart.

Congratulations! You will like it, and if you don't, just use it some other way and then you will like it. The versatility of the coticule is what makes it such a great stone to work with.

Good choice, you won't be sorry. It is not very hard to learn to use the coticule. Feedback off the coticule is a little more difficult to interpret than off some other stones. Make sure to do sharpness testing AFTER stropping on linen and leather. If you get a blade to pass the HHT off the yellow, great! If not, don't think you have to hone more unless it won't pass after the stropping. It took me a long time to learn that lesson. The edge feels more comfortable when I shave if I finish on the coticule, but not as sharp as off some other finishing stones. Try it and draw your own personal conclusions about how your coticule prepares your shaving edges. Barbers did not use coticules for so many years, without excellent reasons.

Hey, good choice! I really don't think you'll regret it. Bloody Bart. You do one in depth study & publish the finding for all to benefit & everyone just keeps thanking you!

I was definitely leaning that way - been researching honing for about a month, so the timing of Bart's posts was perfect indeed!
