Default Finally able to shave, again.

I just wanted to take a moment to state my semi success to honing. After my dead tired, incorrectly stropping the edges off of 2 razors, I forced myself to learn.

This was accomplished on a Henckels #50, Wednesday, of a 7 day set. This was the first razor I had purchased. The razor needs some work, so I figured that I could learn to hone and clean on one that wouldn't hurt my feelings if I messed it up.

I used 1 strip of electrical tape (Why use tape on an old razor? If I am to learn, I may as well learn from setting the bevel), Norton 1k,4k,8k, and finished up with a chinese 12k. From there I stropped 75/55.

This was by no means the best shave I have had, but at least it was in the comfortable range. Now that the process is understood, it can only get better from here. (After my thumb pads heal as well)

I would also like to take a moment to thank all of the SRP members who have taken their time to create how to videos and documents. They are an excellent resource for those of us starting out.

Congratulations! I've found honing to be pretty addictive, especially when I finally got a decent shave out of it... watch out!!
