    Default Vintage Norton

I was at an antique store today and bought a vintage Norton for $13. My question is how do you tell what grit it is? It is dark brown on one side and black on the other, measures (I haven't actually measured it) about 2x6, and came in an original wood box. Any ideas?

Is there a Norton imprint in it? Is it oval? If so, we can help you make a LOT of money!

Sorry, I haven't seen that one. It's the one with the oval imprint that is immensely popular with competitive axe-men.

Lumberjacks who cut wood with axes in competitions seem to prefer a particular Norton two-side hone for sharpening their axes. I have never seen one of them sell for less than $500 in the last couple of years.

I believe those are more coarse than your typical razor hone but I do not know the grit size. If nothing else, it might be used for removing chips from damaged blades.

Thanks for all your help with this. Apparently you are either answering the question perfectly or nobody else is interested, so thanks.

I noticed in your signature that you are doing some honing. I've got three ebay razors (Genco, Clauss and Clauberg) that I'll through in the mix if you have any room. I'll be glad to pay some for the honing, JLMK.
