Thread: Chinese 12K versus my Swaty

I've got a C12K and I used to have a pair of Swaty's as well. I never used the Swaty and C12K in a row on the same blade (I would go either/or), so I couldn't really compare them heads up. The edges off each hone were great, and I'm not sure I'd be able to tell the difference between the two in a blind shave-off.
What I can say is that certain blades seem to prefer certain stones, so it's nice to have a few different finishing hones to play with. Personally, I got tired of the small size of the Swaty's, so I got rid of them. Now I finish all my blades off the C12K (1K synthetic, BBW/coticule, C12K; keeping it simple).
One note on the C12K, I don't think you really need to do 100 laps. I'm sure going that high won't hurt at all, but I usually do more like 50. That gets my edges where I want them. But preferences do change; I used to just finish on my coticule, but after shaving with some of JoeD's blades that he finished on the C12K I decided to get one as well. Seeing as they are only $20 and put amazing edges on blades, I couldn't talk myself out of getting one if I'd tried.

Awesome! Thanks Holli.
My progression is the same. DMT1.2K, BBW, coti....Simple if you don't count the fact that I have 5 coticules.
Did you use a slurry on your 12K?

No, I don't use slurry on my 12K. I've actually never tried, but I don't see any need for it... at this point (I'm sure I'll experiment sooner or later).
