Thanked: 4The pyramid honing strategy sounds a good idea. Though I will certainly buy a 12k in a near future.
I think I will always be seeking for perfection!!
Thanks for all replies...

Thanked: 2as you say you've only been shaving this way for a month, maybe your technique needs practice? I've been running the same blade from Kenrup since October last and haven't done any work to the edge save for pasted stropping though now that my wapi has come in I can see it's ready for touch up.

Thanked: 127Pat,
There seems to be several misconceptions amongst us noobs that you need to consider.
First, when we first start using a str8razor I think everyone is of the opinion that one or two passes will take care of things. The problem is we are really not comparing apples to apples. Try this experiment. Take your old razor, provided it is not an electric, and put a new blade in it. Lather up and hold the razor with your thumb and 3rd finger only and shave in one direction. This should provide about the same pressure you use with the str8. What is the result? Keep this up until you have a shave you are satisfied with. This will give you more accurate feedback on what to expect from your str8razor.
Second, most noob's think they need to have hoaning supplies to start off when in fact, they need to understand that the "keeping it sharp" process is exactly in reverse. We need to understand and perfect stropping and stropping with paste to maintain the edge long before we need to do any hoaning at all. If your stropping techniques are good you should be able to avoid hoaning for months. Leave that to your next practice razor.
I am sure if you are 1 month into this you probably have some great techniques started but maybe your expectations at this point are a bit ahead of you.
Keep up the good work.
