    Default My first touch up

Well today I took off work...and although I told the misses I would clean the apartment i have yet to do that. Today was my first venture into touchup honing my Dovo Renaissance ...

It was challenging but ended up going quite well. I will have the test shave in a few hours.

So I got all set up with an extremely flat Granite tile, 320 grit, 800 grit, 1200 grit and 2000 grit norton wet dry sandpaper and my new Naniwa 12k Super stone.

Started out on the paper and after a while I thought I had the stone lapped pretty well on 320...did three pencil grids. then did 1 grid worth each on 800, 1200 and 2000 grit. Stone was nice and smooth.

Set up at the table with a spritz bottle of distilled water and started going extremely slowly with just a light spritz then letting it go dry then another light spritz, I did about 20 lapps on the stone...then did what i saw other do recently and stropped 10 on cotton and 20 on leather then another 5 passes on the stone.

then went to my felt hanger with .5 diamond spray on 1 side and CrO powder on the other. Did 10 complete laps each.

10 laps cotton 20 laps latigo and popped hanging hairs pretty good.

Will shave in a little while but first will do my normal 25 cotton and 50 latigo. (Now if I only had that dovo white paste i want to try on my cotton)

All in all not a bad experience but alot more difficult than I thought. You honemeisters are really skilled.

That was an advanced touch up rather.
Sounds like you're going to have a great shave!

Touch up! my rear? That was a full-scale re-honing.
Well done anyway - nothing much for you to fear now then

Ooops, the low grit was for lapping a stone..sorry.

Yeah i only used the 12k stone on the razor. THe low grip paper was just to lap the stone. I had read that going to higher grit paper makes a nicer honing surface for the razor. It seemed to work good and the stone was silky smooth on the razor. But I still give credit too all that hone razors from dull to sharp and all kinds of blades. I had enough trouble with the dovo straight blade much less smiles and hump backs and uneven spines and this and that....
