Oxford Sandstone?
I wanted to know if any of the HADdicts on this forum were familiar with a Sandstone hone hailing from Oxford City in England.
As it's a sandstone it might very well be too coarse for razors, but as I come from the area it would be nice to see one all the same.
The stone is described as being: "... very good, even and consistent, with very few inclusions." Belgian Coticules are also discussed in comparison with the Oxford stone, so there's some hope that it may even be a functional stone for Straight users.
Kindest regards,
Alex

Thanked: 1587Hmmmm... I have not heard of it as an abrasive, and really have no clue about the grit size of sandstone - but I do know that a lot of the old buildings there are made of sandstone.
Instead of the Morse tour of Oxford, we could have the Honing tour. Men tramping around rubbing their razors on buildings. Start at University College to set the bevel, move on to Magdalen for the intermediate, on to Christ Church for an initial polish, Radcliffe Camera and the Sheldonian for finishing!!
