Thread: Ever notice

After you've honed and stroped a razor and used it initially and it just doesn't quite give the shave you have expected and your inclination is to take it back to the hone for a few more strokes but instead you just strop it again and use it a few more times and it seems to shave better after a few shaves?

Or am I the only one this happens to. Any ideas as to why this is the case?

Yes. Most of the time a quick trip around a pasted strop will being it to better keenness. Sometimes it takes a few visits to the strops. heading back to the hone is a very last resort.

I experienced exactly the same:
I often want to hone a razor that failed in shaving.
Before honing I give it a go on the strop and often it is really sharp and I regret having distrusted the razor.
It is mostly sharp for the next couple of shaves.

Those razors have their own mind...
