    Thanks Lynn and Randy. I hadn't tried the 45 degree raised spine but I can see how it would do the job. As I pointed out in the OP, a smile if not too radical is a desirable feature in a shaving razor.... to me anyway... and to the author of the 1961 barber manual excerpt on honing and stropping here in the SRP Wiki. The honing method that they recommend in that 'lesson' is one that I have had success with on a lot of razors.

    For those new members who are not familiar with the frown/smile terminology there are illustrations in the barber manual excerpt that show the blades with those profiles.
    Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

    this is a nice way of removing a frown,
    i also tried it and it worked out great!
