Default Finally time for a Japanese Natural!

    Hey all,

So after a lot of questions to OLD_SCHOOL (thanks for being so pantient with me!) , I finally pulled the trigger on this:

I've always wanted a nice natural Japanese finishing stone, but I finally got the courage to get one.

It's a Maruichi Nakayama, and I CAN'T WAIT until it arrives. It's not even mailed yet as I just purchased it, but I will be counting down the days.

    Just wanted to share.....

I will be sure to post plenty of pictures with a mini-review when it arrives. Until then, I'll have to wait!

Looks great and from what Zib has told me about his, you are in for a treat! What are you using as a finisher now? It will be interesting to hear how this one differs from your current finisher.

    Congrats,

    Joe

It's apparently a very hard and slow cutting hone, but out of the 3 nakayama's that O_S had for sale he liked the finish on this one the best (just slightly ). I asked how many laps it would take after an 8k or for a touch-up, but it really depends on the blade, but it would take <100. I actually enjoy slow hones as then you get more time to bond with it!

It has a Maruka stamp on the side of the hone, and this apparently signifies a family trademark.

It is a Maruichi hone as it has the

And it's speically chosen, as this signifies

The writing on the top of the stone (right in the picture) means that it's a gauranteed Nakayama.

That's what I got from this page: Hone information.

But it's been used by O_S so he can attest to it's quality, so I am gauranteed a quality finishing hone for a razor.

    I can't wait!!

I currently use a hard coticule with water or a yellow/green escher. I like my current finishers, but I have a feeling they're going to get topped by this Japanese beast.

I would agree, therefore I'll send you my address to ensure the yellow/green escher does not feel left out!

    Again, very nice piece, enjoy!

Congrats and I look forward to hearing how it compares to your other finishers. I'm still holding out for the one that you just point to the east and wave the blade over a few times and it cuts HHT.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
