As long as the glass is perfectly flat then yes, it'll work just as fine. I've read several posts by members using wet/dry paper on glass for lapping.

The only advantage to a piece of granite is that you can buy granite plates specifically engineered to be perfectly flat, while I cannot attest to the flatness of your piece of glass.

But unless you're really OCD about perfect flatness, I'm sure lapping using the glass cutting board will work just fine!

You can go to pretty much any glass shop and ask for a piece of 1/4 plate glass. It will be perfectly flat. I used to play the clarinet, and used plate glass + 1000 grit automotive sandpaper to flatten my reeds.

I have a plate glass coffee table that I use for lapping. Due to its manufacturing process, it is very flat. The slurry cleans up easily and it doesn't get scratched.
