First it needs to be broken in with a plane iron, chisel, or in my case by wetting it and rubbing the surface with the shank of a large screwdriver. I pay particular attention to knocking down any divots on the edges that might catch the razor's edge and chip it.

DMT recommends a drop of dish soap in the water and it does make things go more smoothly. The 1200 is a bevel setter and cuts very fast and is aggressive. Be very careful and use magnification to check your progress. You can always take metal off but you can't put it back. I usually do circles and back and forth strokes on a really dull razor and ASAP start with regular X strokes. It is a bevel setter only.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
