honers in NYC area? don't have to be a honemeister
I figured that it would be a great learning experience to at some point be able to sit down with someone who has significant experience in honing and to be able to actually hone a razor with them, learn technique first hand, etc., making sure that what I'm doing is actually right, and that I am not ending the progression too early and therefore not getting the best edge possible.
I am taking on the honing journey by myself right now, but it would be nice to know whether or not an objective 3rd party exists to help learn from if needed.
I am curious whether there is anyone in the NYC area that has such experience and would be willing to have such a sit down session? I am not from the city, but the general area (Long Island). I may not have time right now to have such a meeting, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask for future reference.
Looking forward to any and all feedback. Thanks a lot you guys!!!

Thanked: 43Razorburne,
I'm originally from NJ (exit 131), and I get back there a couple of times a year. Next time I go back, I'll let you know, and maybe we can scare up a few people for a sharpen-in. I'd be happy to host. There's plenty of free parking!
Looks like my next planned trip is for Feb. 2010, though.

Sounds like you guys are candidates for a local SRP get together. Start planning.

I've organized these for my reed knife customers in the past. I'd be happy to get this going. I've had people come from MD, CT, PA, NY, and from far away as Florida (they happened to be on vacation in NJ - although I don't know why).
It can be open to anyone who wants to come. I can see this happening at my parents house (gee, I'd better ask...) for about 10-15 people. After that, we'd need to find a place.
I'd be in Edison (thus the old exit 131 thing). There is NJ transit N.E. Corridor line 5 minutes from me, and practically all of the major roads in NJ merge within a 5 mile radius - NJ turnpike, Parkway, Rt. 287, and Rt.1. About 1.5 hours from Philly, 2.5 from Baltimore, and 4 from Boston (if you drive like me - 3:55 from the Fens!)
Best part - I'll have all of the Shapton Pro and Glass stones!
