    Default new honing vids?

don't know if any of you have seen these videos yet, or if they are any good (as I have yet to watch them), but I figured I would pass them along:

I notice he is using more of a progressive method rather than a pyramid, and I had just one question:

obviously it works for him, and he is experienced and knows what he is doing, but I always thought the Norton 4k was a "fast cutter" and that doing ~100 laps on it as seen in the video would be way too much and might even cause problems.

interestingly enough, he does tons of 4k passes and relatively little 8k laps in comparison, claiming the 8k to be known for easily overhoning.

is it generally ok to do so many laps on 4k? I was always tentative with that grit, not wanting to mess up the edge...maybe I'm not doing enough at the 4k level.

Number of the strokes is depend on a lot factors blade material, grind, stones condition, etc.
the best you can make sure to move from 4k to 8k is make sure when you cut your arm hair ,You will see hair start to jump this means you are ready to move next grit.
i have done more laps on 4 k side that means it wasn't ready to go to 8k side. in the other hand i checked in the middle of the honing on 4 kside and mention blade is not getting sharp on the tip. it has a little warping. if you have similar problem you should fix it before going to 8k.
i was trying to use as much as different hones possible to show how to use them. that is why i use dmt then norton then slip stone etc.
    hope video will help.
