    Default Help about norton

    Hi, i have norton 4k/8k.
I need hone my dovo 1516, because it's about 6 month i didn't hone it, and it isn't longer sharp.
I should use also 4k or only 8k stone for this maintenance?
Thankyou All, sorry for my bad english

Welcome to SRP. What part of the world are you in ? There may be a member with more experience near enough to give you a hand.

Here is a tutorial in the SRP Wiki on honing and here is another on honing with the Norton. If you try it yourself either a a conservative pyramid as explained in the tutorial or maybe just try a few strokes on the 8k alone and see if that doesn't improve the edge. Then strop and shave. Have you any experience with honing razors ?

    Thank you.
    I come from italy.
I had read a few time ago the norton guide,
I've honed 3 razor with quite good results: dovo 1516, a vintage blue steel and another old razor.
So you suggest me to use norton conservative honing pyramid, right?

Good that you have already honed a few razors and even better that you got good results. It is always difficult to advise someone on honing a particular razor without seeing it and feeling the edge.

From the way you've described it I would try a few laps on the 8k alone and than feel the edge with the thumb pad test. If it feels good strop and shave. If not or if the shave leaves something to be desired then go to the pyramids and test when you feel it is ready. SRP member clavichord is in Italy. You might send him a personal message and see if he is anywhere near to you.
