    First off, congratulations on getting it back into shaving condition!

    The angle of the bevel will be determined by the honing stroke used, the pressure used and the stones/pastes. For each razor you will need to make the bevel "your own" by using your hones and honing stroke. What you have experienced is pretty normal. Each of us hones a razor just a bit differently.

    I think you are right-- also could be the paste finish (I don't use paste). Anyway, it is pretty great to have honemeisters that will get your blade in great shape, and mentors that can help you hone your own. The reward is in the journey...
