As a group, it appears that Honemeisters were not always as revered as they are today

Honemeisters are trash: you don't want to associate with them!
Scissor and knife sharpeners aren't very popular in the Netherlands: most of them are people of no fixed abode. They tend to charge a lot for poor quality work.Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose. Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr.
