Default Shaving off a 2 line Swaty

A simple question. Could you shave a 2 line off a 2 line swaty?

Yes and no. It would depend on the condition of the edge before you went to the Swaty. If you had a sharp razor off say an 8k then the Swaty would improve it IME. If you had a razor that needed a bevel set you'd be a long time honing. Just IMO.

If the bevel is set you can do it, I did this last year with my granpas razor, he hadnt used it since '65, it took hours and hours into the wee morning. I got a passable shave, still a little on the rough side, but it did it.

Yes that is what the Swaty is for. Try a few round trips on the label side. If that doesn't get you where you want it try a few more. Less is better ..... if it is getting results.

I've shaved off a two line Swaty. It did the job quite well as a finisher, but I find my C12k is a bit better.

Would getting a chinese polishing hone be a better finisher?

Perhaps, but it really depends on the skill of the user. In my opinion you can get a perfectly good edge off of a Swaty. You can sneak up on improving the edge by just doing a few strokes on it and then stropping and shaving. If the shave is not good enough, repeat the next day, just keep doing it till you get the edge you want. It only takes a few seconds to to it.

Also, I think you will get better results with diluted lather rather than plain water, which tends to bead up and fall off the hone during the stroke. Just wet your hone and then lightly pass a little lather from your brush onto the hone. Spread it out with your fingers and then hone away.

I think it is, but you'd have to experiment for yourself. It seems there are a number of different Swaty's with different markings and perhaps different formulae. Also, the C12k's are natural, so they have some variations as well.
