I've always used the dmt1200 for setting bevels or chip removing. I am now using 1k naniwa on a razor that is absalutley dull with no bevel at all it seems to take alot of strokes on this 1k naniwa i get there slowly. Do you guys think its becauase i am use to dmt1200 does the dmt remove steal alot quiker than say 1k naniwa or norton 1k?

I think that it does yes. OTOH, the Naniwa will probably leave a shallower scratch pattern to smooth out when you go up in grit. Sort of pay me now or pay me later.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I no what your saying takes a while longer but more rewarding.I've tryed setting a bevel on a real breadnife and it has taken ages i don't have lower grit but what would you drop to if that was the case.

I know Lynn had the Norton combo 225/1000 and he mentioned in serious cases using the 225. I have used my 325 diamond plate for a really large chip removal. I now have a DMT 600 and if worse came to worse I would use that. Rarely have to so my 1200 would probably be what I would use even if it took a bit more time. I seldom breadknife anymore unless it is absolutely necessary.

This was an old razor with no bevel it took ages but got there in the end thats when i thought is this thing cutting but it was because i could see bevel forming but took ages to feel sharp.
