    Default touching up razor

will acoticule give a keen enough edge for touch up this question goes out to any one who has used one for this purpose. i have a thew but never tryed for touch up i will when razors needs atention. And whats the average laps to do so for a rough guide.

I would use cr.5 oxide after but i would test before i do just to see what coti can give to my edge alone. I also have vintage thuringian barbers hone ch12k 12k naniwa kitiyama believe it or not i never done touch ups as i hone razor before it gets dull i no i should'nt but ilke honing.

This time i will let razor deteriate a little then try touch up on coti first but thats when .

Tough to say on the Coticules they are a natural stone and if used with a slurry it will always be a little different. Finishing on a paste or spray to me is a must do. I finish all my razors with .5 Diamond spray on hard wool felt. If I really want to play with scary sharp I will use the .25 but you got to be careful.

I love the felt hanging strop Don sells and the 0.5 spray. I especially like it on tougher stainless blades.

If you like the edge you get off of a yellow coticule I would guess you would like the results for touching up if the edge didn't need anymore than that.

I shaved off my coticule for quite some time and really liked the edge. It is certainly plenty keen enough to shave with, and I found it was also a very smooth edge.

I have an extra-extra fine Vintage Coti I have one razor, no tape that I use on that stone...I have touched it up three times in 2 years... In comparison I haven't touched up any other razor in my regular rotation, they haven't needed it yet....

The Coti keeps that razor shaving just fine, nice, smooth, close, shave....
I have another test razor that has only seen a 4/8 Norton for 2 years
Another that is touched up on my 28 year old unknown white stone for 3 years.. (most likely a Arkansas)
Another that has only seen a DD barbers hone for 2 1/2 years
These are test razors too help me keep a perspective on honing....

No more than 20. Sometimes less. On that paste less is probably definitely more. Light and fast laps.
