    Default Lapping my lapping stone

Bless me for I have sinned; it has been more than 12 months ince my last thread.
That is because i have been doing well with my norton 4/8 an dmy norton flattening stone. That is up until recently when my razors were taking longer and longer to sharpen, I finally looked at the flattening stone and noted some irregularity to the surface which I attribute to the mutual wearing down on the lapping sone during the lapping process.
I have searched the threads in vain for the lapping of lapping stones. Maybe it doesn't exist, but I could have sworn I saw something about it somewhere...

I recently did the very same thing (lap my Norton lapping stone). I used a small sheet of plate glass, and some wet/dry sandpaper wetted to stick to the glass. Mark the flattening stone the same you would your 4k/8k and lap away. The lapping stone really isn't all that hard, all things considered.

Beside plate glass (usually available cheap), you could go to a home renovation store and buy a smooth marble or granite tile.

    Hope that helps.

    Mark

I'm a DMT plate flattener as well. No issues with the flattener getting out of shape

After using 1/2 a dozen wet/dry 220 sandpaper sheets; i have finally gotten both my norton 4k/8k and my lapping stone back into shape. I cannot believe how deformed they became. I started honing 2 years ago. It's possible I may have lapped more than I needed to, but after 2 years I can see how incredibly worn down the middle of my lapping plate became and the ends of my Norton hone became. I am confident this was the main reason my honing this past year was unsatisfactory.
Hopefully I will get better, quicker results.
    Thanks to all your comments.
