Thread: Herder--Is this normal?

A Herder was the first razor I managed to hone satisfactorily and it still is one of my sharpest razors. Mine was really easy to hone as well, keeps its edge very well too.

Congrats on a good honing but more so in identifying what your razor needed before honing half of it away, not that you would, but some have.

It's not the norm so don't get too used to it. I've had some from time to time that behaved as you describe but I won't give their names up. They are far and few between for me. At least it seems that way.

I honed up a big wedge a few weeks ago that was sharp in no time. It was a pleasant surprise as some have tried my patients.

I appreciate all your kind words, and while I hope that there is an element of improving skill here, I have to be honest--I don't see it. I still have razors that give me fits...there's still so much to learn.

Dave, I used a 1K Japanese made Diamond plate, a 2K Naniwa Super stone, a 4K king Home Stone, and an 8K super stone.

This was an F Herder, by the way. It's a "Square" (says so right on the tang...) but I think it's more of a spike point, and it's around a 13/16.
